BORN & BRED IN PAPAKURA
American Sports Press has Quoted - "Over her Favoured Distances Kim Smith is now - the fastest White Woman in the world "

Kimberley first showed her ability to run at the Interschool Cross Country when she was in her last year at Papakura Central Primary School.
Kimberley joined the Papakura Athletic & Harrier Club and enjoyed the club scene. By the time Kimberley had reached Rosehill College she was part of a winning team of friends that included the Castle twins, Kristin & Therese, and Antionette Harbraken. These girls were known as ' the Dream Team ' and went on to top their age group in New Zealand.
Darren Heaven, a fellow club member, coached Kimberley over this period.
Kimberley spent her last two years of college at Kings College where her coach was Perry Cunningham.
Kimberley's performances continued to improve over these years but she didn't quite make New Zealand's No.1 ranking.
After gaining an A Bursary at Kings College, Kimberley was offered a Scholarship at McNeese University in Louisiana, after a year Kimberley decided Louisiana wasn't the place for her and returned home to Papakura where she attended Teachers Training College. This was a tough time for Kimberley juggling study, travel, training, working part time and racing.
While competing at the World Cross Country Champs in Ireland Kimberley was offered another scholarship at Providence College in Rhode Island. Kimberley accepted and while there her running went from strength to strength. She won the N.C.A.A. Cross Country final and broke records winning 1st division 3000 & 5000 mtrs.
Reebock then offered Kimberley a sponsorship contract that now enables her to run professionally on the World Athletic Circut. Kimberley has qualified for both Olympic and Commonwealth games and recently competed at 2008 Beijing Olympic Games in the 10,000 mtrs final finishing a credible 9th place in extreemly tough conditions.
Kimberley's best times this year for 10,000 mtrs 30:35 ... 5,000 mtrs 14:45. Kimberley holds New Zealand National Records in the 10,000 - 5,000 - 3,000 - One mile outdoor and 5000 & 2,000m indoor records.
Kimberley is undoubtedly the very best female track athlete to come out of New Zealand.
